3-Bet Range Chart (6-Max GTO)

A 3-bet range chart shows which hands to re-raise, call, or fold when someone has already opened the pot. The interactive chart below covers every facing-a-raise spot in a 6-max No-Limit Hold'em cash game at 100bb — big-blind and small-blind defense plus in-position 3-bets — built from simplified GTO solver output, with a 3-bet / call / fold matrix for every seat and sizing guidance. How often should each seat 3-bet, call, or fold?

Every facing-a-raise spot in a 6-max 100bb cash game, as percentages of all starting hands. Rows are your seat, columns are who opened. Read across a row and the shape is the lesson: the wider the opener, the more you 3-bet and the more you call — and the small blind 3-bets far more than it calls because it can't afford to play out of position for one bet.

How big should a 3-bet be?

SpotSizevs a 2.5bb openWhy
In position (BTN / CO vs an earlier open)3× the open≈ 7.5bbYou'll act last postflop; a smaller size keeps the pot manageable and still denies a cheap call.
Out of position from the blinds3.5–4× the open≈ 9–10bbPosition is worth paying for — a bigger price offsets acting first on every street.
Facing an open plus a caller (squeeze)4× the open + 1× per caller≈ 12–13bbTwo opponents means more dead money to win and more equity against you if called.
Versus a 3bb+ openSame multiples9bb IP / 11–12bb OOPScale with the open, not with a fixed number.

One rule covers most of it: bigger out of position, bigger against callers, and scale with the open. A 3-bet that's too small from the big blind is the most common sizing leak at low stakes — it hands the opener a cheap look with position for the rest of the hand.

How do you read a 3-bet range chart?

Same 13×13 layout as any preflop chart: pairs down the diagonal, suited hands above it, offsuit below. Mint cells are 3-bets, blue cells are calls, dark cells are folds. Pick the spot that matches the table — your position, and the position of the player who opened — and the chart tells you what to do with every hand. Split cells are mixed frequencies; tap one to see the exact split.

Notice the shape of a 3-bet range rather than memorizing cells: a block of value at the top left (big pairs, AK, AQs), then a band of suited-ace and suited-connector bluffs below it, with the medium-strength hands — the ones that play badly against a 4-bet but fine in a single-raised pot — sitting in the calling color.

What are the biggest 3-betting mistakes?

  • Flat-calling hands that should 3-bet. Calling with QQ or AK "to see a flop" invites multiway pots where their equity edge shrinks. Every chart on this page 3-bets those hands at 100% — that value block is the one part of a 3-bet range nobody should get wrong.
  • Never 3-betting as a bluff. If your 3-bets are only QQ+ and AK, good players fold everything but the top of their range and you win small pots with your best hands. The first bluffs to add are the small suited aces (A5s–A2s) — they block AA/AK, make the nut flush, and fold cleanly to a 4-bet. The charts mix them in at 30–60% from the blinds; tap any split cell to see the exact frequency.
  • Letting the small blind steal. A small-blind open is the widest range at the table and you close the action with position for the whole hand — the big blind 3-bets it about 8% of the time here, more than against any other seat. Folding or flatting everything gives that seat a free orbit.
  • Same range against every opener. An UTG open is tight; a small-blind open is the widest at the table. From the big blind these charts 3-bet the small blind about 8% of the time and UTG only 3% — and call a button open 36% versus a fraction of that against UTG.
  • Sizing too small out of position. A 3x 3-bet from the big blind gives the opener a cheap look in position. Go bigger from the blinds.

Not sure whether you under-3-bet or over-call? The 4-minute leak quiz reads it from real hands.

3-bet range FAQ

What is a 3-bet in poker?

A 3-bet is the first re-raise preflop. The big blind is the first bet, the open-raise is the second, so the re-raise over an open is the third — a '3-bet'. It's the main way to punish loose openers, take the initiative, and build pots with your strongest hands.

Which hands should you 3-bet?

Two groups: value hands (big pairs, AK, AQs) that want a bigger pot, and bluffs — mostly the small suited aces (A5s–A2s) and a few suited connectors, which block your opponent's best hands and make the nuts when called. In these charts the bluffs are mixed-frequency (a hand like A5s 3-bets 40–60% of the time from the blinds and calls or folds the rest), which is why they show as split cells. Against a button open the big blind 3-bets about 6% of hands and calls another 36%.

How often should you 3-bet?

It depends on position and who opened. Facing a tight early-position open you 3-bet rarely; facing a wide late-position or small-blind open you 3-bet more and call much more. In these 6-max 100bb charts the big blind 3-bets an UTG open about 3% of the time and a small-blind open about 8%; the button 3-bets a cutoff open around 6%. The bigger swing is in calls: the big blind calls a button open 36% of the time versus far less against UTG.

Should you 3-bet or call with AK?

3-bet. AK (suited or offsuit) is a clear 3-bet from every position in these charts. Flat-calling with AK invites multiway pots where its equity edge shrinks and gives up the initiative; 3-betting isolates the opener and gets the money in while you're ahead.

What size should a 3-bet be?

Roughly 3x the open when you're in position and 3.5–4x when you're out of position (the big blind and small blind), because being out of position is worth compensating for with a bigger price. Versus a 2.5bb open, that's about 7.5bb in position and 9–10bb from the blinds.
