What are implied odds in poker?
Implied odds are pot odds adjusted for the money you expect to win on later streets if you hit your hand. A call that is slightly losing on raw pot odds can be correct when a made straight or flush will get paid off — and slightly winning calls can be wrong when hitting won't get paid.
Why it matters
Draws rarely get the right price on the current street alone, so implied odds are what make most draws playable. The questions are how much is left behind (deep stacks raise implied odds), whether the opponent will pay off (a calling station does, a nit doesn't), and whether your draw is obvious (a flush completing is visible; a gutshot isn't).
The reverse also exists: reverse implied odds are the money you lose when you hit but the opponent has better — a flush draw without the ace, or a straight draw on a paired board.

- A flush draw on the flop has about 35% equity by the river but only 19% on the next card; against a two-thirds-pot bet (28.6% needed) it's a call only with implied odds or two cards to come.

How do you calculate implied odds?
Estimate how much you'll win on average when you hit (not the whole stack — the amount the opponent will actually pay), add it to the current pot, and recompute the break-even equity with that larger pot. If your equity clears it, call.
Which hands have the best implied odds?
Disguised draws with deep stacks: small pairs (set-mining), suited connectors making straights, and gutshots. Obvious draws like a four-flush board have poor implied odds because opponents stop paying.
